I don't place metal in anyone's mouth. No amalgam, no metal-based crowns. It's one of the most common reasons people find me.
What I use instead
-White composite fillings. For most teeth. The material I use is BPA-free and free of the classic monomers found in many older composites. It's shade-matched to your tooth.
-Ceramic inlays and onlays. When a filling would be too big for the tooth to stay strong, a ceramic restoration made to fit gives more support. £895 per tooth.
-Ceramic crowns. Where a tooth needs full coverage.
Why patients ask for metal-free
The reasons vary. Some don't want to see metal when they smile. Some would rather not have mercury-containing amalgam in their mouth. Some have concerns about metals in general. Whatever the reason, it's your mouth and your choice, and I'm happy to talk it through honestly.
Removing old metal safely
If you already have amalgam fillings and want them replaced, how they're removed matters. I use the SMART protocol every time, and I'm the only IAOMT SMART Protocol Mentor in the UK. How amalgam removal works · What it costs
What about other metal work?
Old crowns, bridges and posts can contain metal too. I'll look at everything at your first appointment and talk through options. Nothing has to be done all at once, and some things are best left alone.
